Vegan Wine Spritzers

As a frequent wine drinker, I’ve long been frustrated by how difficult finding vegan wines can be! For those who don’t know, many winemakers use animal products in the “fining” process. Freshly fermented wine typically contains small particles of proteins, tannins, and tartrates- these are all naturally occurring substances that are only removed because we like to drink smooth, clean wine. Historically, winemakers have used casein (milk protein), albumin (egg whites), isinglass (fish bladder), and gelatin (collagen from animal bones) as fining agents, but more and more vineyards are starting to use cruelty-free substances like bentonite (clay-based) and activated charcoal instead!

We’re still a few years away (in my estimation) from having vegan wines clearly labeled with this information, so in the meantime, it takes some research. Barnivore is the #1 guide for looking up your favorite brands, but because of its encyclopedic nature, it can be time consuming to stand in the liquor store typing in the name of every bottle you see. To save you some time, these are some of the brands of vegan wines I’ve found to be most widely available! I’ve also included outgoing affiliate links to Drizly 🚗, a convenient alcohol delivery service available in dozens of U.S. cities.

All vegan wines listed are accompanied by a photo, because knowing what the bottle looks like makes it 1000% easier to find it in a liquor store!

*Please note that some winemakers change their methods from year to year, depending on the quality of their grapes. This list will be updated often, but please know the most recent information I have comes from Barnivore.com.

WHITE VEGAN WINES

KRIS

Pinot Grigio

Kris is my absolute go-to wine. In Denver, it ranges from $10-$14 depending on the retailer. I find it at most liquor stores, both the small boutique shops and the larger retailers!

LITTLE BLACK DRESS

Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, & Moscato

I recently came across this budget-friendly company, and was pleased to discover their white wines are all vegan! Prices in retail stores usually range from $7-$10.

* LABEL NOTE: Little Black Dress updated their label a few years ago. Some online shops (like Drizly, currently) still display images of the old label. Their white wines are vegan regardless of the label!

LES JAMELLES

Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay

The entire Les Jamelles line is vegan! Evidently, they were very concerned about potential allergen issues with the use of animal products, so they “only use products of vegetable or mineral origin” in the fining process. These wines aren’t quite as widely available as some of the others on this list (there are only two local options here in Denver), but the price is right (typically around $8-$12/bottle depending on the varietal) and you can definitely find it online!

Get Les Jamelles wines delivered 🚗 in under 60 minutes from Drizly

BOGLE

Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay

Bogle is another one of my go-to wines as I can usually find their Sauvignon Blanc at our local liquor stores, and I love that they have a whole page dedicated to their sustainability measures! Bogle has confirmed that their Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are always vegan, but note that their red wines vary from year to year. Price per bottle is usually $9-$11.

Bottles of Natura white varietals usually range from $9 – $11.

NEWMAN’S OWN

Chardonnay

How did I just discover that Newman’s Own makes wine? I love buying their products when possible, because all profits go to charity. Oddly, their Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are vegan, whereas their other varietals are not. Price per bottle is typically $10-$13.

Get Newman’s Own Chardonnay delivered 🚗 in under 60 minutes from Drizly

LAYER CAKE

Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay

Layer Cake is a fully vegan label, providing reds, whites, and rosé. I’ve been buying their rosé every week this summer! MICHAEL DAVID WINERY

vegan wines michael david winery freakshow 7 deadly zins

This listing is a little different, because Michael David Winery varietals all have difference names, so it can be a little confusing. I’m happy to confirm that they are all vegan! I’m not a big red wine drinker, but I LOVE the Freakshow Cabernet. Other popular varietals are the 7 Deadly Zins and the Petite Petit.

Aside from a few more high end vintages, bottles typically range from $16-$20.

CASTELLO DEL POGGIO

Moscato

vegan wines CASTELLO DEL POGGIO moscato

Castello del Poggio Moscato has surged in popularity due (apparently) to it being a top choice at The Olive Garden! Their store locator doesn’t seem to be totally up to date, because it shows zero listings in my area, despite me definitely having seen it at least once recently. If you can’t find it at the liquor store, at least you can pretty much guarantee a bottle when dining on vegan options (there aren’t many, but you can devour the breadsticks!) at The Olive Garden! Price for bottle is typically close to $15 USD.

WILSON CREEK ALMOND SPARKLING WINE

Sparkling Wine

All of Wilson Creek’s wines are vegan, but their most noteworthy is certainly their Almond Sparkling Wine. It consistently receives rave reviews, especially for the price point! It has a slight but not overpowering almond aftertaste. I tried both the Almond Sparkling Wine and their Peach Bellini on New Years Eve 2021, and really enjoyed them both. HONORABLE MENTIONS: VEGAN CHAMPAGNE

* Champagnes listed below do not fit into the price guidelines applied to the rest of this guide. Real Champagne must come from the Champagne region of France, and these bottles almost always come with a higher price point. I’ve included the listings below for shoppers with a higher budget, or for those who may be happy to buy half bottles.

NICOLAS FEUILLATTE

Champagne, Sparkling Rosé Wine

vegan wines NICOLAS FEUILLATTE brut

Of the vegan Champagnes that do exist, Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne tends to be among the most budget-friendly. I’ve seen it priced as low as $29.99, but it’s typically closer to $35-$40 per bottle. Reviewers feel it’s a great quality for the price, and makes an elegant yet affordable gift.

MOËT & CHANDON

Considered by many to be the best champagne on the market, Moët & Chandon’s full line is vegan! 1. Thank you!! This is a wonderful resource. I laughed out loud because that is totally me at the liquor store trying to use that Barnivore website!

    1. Haha I’m glad it’s not just me! It’s sort of like going to the grocery store with a list of “every food that’s vegan in the world” and trying to see if any of those items are there. I LOVE them for creating the resource though, it’s amazing how much work they put into it!

    2. Thanks so much ! This was really helpful . I e been on that site before and it was overwhelming for me . This was great and much appreciated ! Mina

  2. Love this! Thank you for doing this. You’ve opened me up to different wine labels. I never really thought twice about it before, but will from now on. Thanks again!

  3. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Now I’m emailing all my favorite local KY brands to be sure they’re vegan. (Old 502 is, and it’s delicious, if you ever want to order some online and have it shipped to you. They make a really great bourbon barrel red!)

  4. Thanks! I like Barnivore, but it certainly takes a while in the store. My favorite vegan wine right now is La Crema, anything of theirs, but can’t wait to try one of the wines above!

  5. Hi!!! This is so amazing, I’ve used it many times since posting…. curious, what are your faves? I try to like reds but need smoothness & not overly sweet ones either, thanks! (instagram fan @vegluvpeacemon

    1. I’m so glad it’s helpful! Honestly, I’ve been a white wine fan for years, and Kris Pinot Grigio is always my favorite. That said, I’m drinking the Michael David “Freakshow” wine tonight and I LOVE it!

  6. Totally using this next time. I usually spend 20 minutes in the store typing names into barnivor. Eventually someone asks me if I need help and when I say I need a vegan wine they have no idea. Last time the clerk pulled out his phone to tell me about barnivor. This is usually when I give up.

  7. THAAAAAAAANK YOU! I have stood in Kroger trying to either look up wine via Barnivore or using 2-3 different apps (Is it Vegan?/Vegan Pocket/ etc) trying to scan the barcodes on the bottles-USUALLY, NO DICE 🙁 I end up with results like “uncertain/unsure/unknown/etc” total bummer, then I try to google the actual wine itself but by then, my groceries are getting warm, my kids are SUPER OVER being at the grocery store, and I just grab a bottle hoping it’s vegan. This is an AMAZING compilation and this wine loving mama of 2 boys thanks you!

  8. Meiomi is no longer vegan 🙁 This list has saved my LIFE in terms of planning my wedding (which is next month!!) so thank you! We’re buying all of the wines ourselves because I know that vegan wine is a tricky thing to get sometimes.
I’ve been using the list you made here and triple checking each brand I reeeeally want with Barnivore, and while doing that I looked up Meiomi Chardonnay, and as of literally last month the company said “we do not produce any vegan wines.” They did at one point, but not anymore I guess?!
Just thought you’d want to know! thank you for all of your resources!! 🙂

  9. Thank you for this awesome resource and the pictures!! Not sure if this is local to So Cal but Wilson Creek Winery is vegan and their almond sparkling champagne is very yummy. Frey wine is also vegan and there is another red wine that I like, if I can find the bottle I’ll add it.

  10. I used this list and bought the Rose All Day and the Seven Daughters Moscato wine but found that one to have honey which isn’t vegan. Please add a note stating that so that other vegans who don’t consume honey know. I zoomed in on the picture after the fact and noticed it was right there on the side of the label.

    Thank you for sharing this!

  11. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Found your site while I was in the liquor store searching for vegan wine and left with a bottle of Layer Cake. Can’t wait to check out the rest of your site. Thanks again!!!

  12. Thank you so much for sending out this list to the public. Lately, I’ve been drinking Bonterra and Francis Coppola wines, but both have started to taste DISTINCTLY like egg whites. BLECH!! I found your page on Google after searching wine without egg whites, and thankfully found the Michael David Winery Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon at my local wine shop, and it is SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD!!! It tastes like dark cherries and pairs perfect with chocolate and there is NO EGG WHITE TASTE!!!! You are the best, Jessica!!!!! MUAH!!!!!!
