Vegan Snow Boots 2020

Vegan fashion: it’s all fun and games until your toes get chilly! Fortunately for the animals, synthetic materials are often more waterproof than leather, so it’s actually not too tough to find vegan snow boots. With outerwear companies spending more time and money on advancing thermal technology, it’s easier than ever to keep your feet warm and dry without harming animals. Below are some of my top vegan winter boots picks for men and women!

PS: If you’re looking for less “weather hardy” boots and prefer a more high fashion fall/winter boot, head over to my post on Vegan Fall Boots for 2020.

*Adhesive Note: Some companies are hesitant to claim any of their boots are vegan because they don’t know or will not disclose the breakdown of all glue/adhesive materials used by their manufacturers. I consider this to be a minimal risk, especially given how many adhesive companies have stopped using animal byproducts, so I have still included those options on this list. Because so many unavoidable everyday items we purchase (for example, cardboard boxes used for packaging food and other household items) contain adhesive from undisclosed sources, I (and most vegans with whom I’ve discussed this) don’t consider this to be a deal breaker. Of course, if this is a concern for you, I recommend only purchasing from fully vegan brands that share details about their adhesive sourcing.

WOMEN

Hunter Vegan Winter Boots

Vegan winter boots pictured above are the Original Roll Top Sherpa Boots, the Original Insulated Tall Snow Boots, and the Original Insulated Tall Wellington Boots.

Hunter rose to national popularity with their extremely durable, waterproof, and stylish rain boots, and last year they added vegan snow boots to match! Their boots are almost all vegan, but they do have a couple leather options, so be sure to double check the materials. These boots are crafted to provide extra cold weather insulation without sacrificing comfort or aesthetics.

Current prices vary from $122 – $245 USD (Hunter allows you to split purchases into 4 interest-free payments with AfterPay)

Vegan styles pictured above are the Whitney Tall Lace Boot, the Snowlion XT Boot, and the 1964 CVS Boot

Sorel specializes in making high-quality, extremely warm boots, and fortunately they have a few vegan options! I happen to love the moonboot-style “Snowlion” boot pictured above the most, but the 1964 CVS boot is a close second! Sorel does sell quite a few boots made with cow skin, so be sure to read the materials!

Current prices range from $100 – $200 USD

* Sorel does not disclose details about proprietary adhesives used in their products. For reasons outlined in the disclaimer above, I’ve still chosen to include them in this guide, but still want to be transparent about this detail.

Ilse Jacobsen Vegan Winter Boots

vegan winter boots snow rain ilse

Scandinavian fashion house Ilse Jacobsen offers a wide range of vegan winter boots! While they’re labeled as rain boots, the cozy cotton fleece lining makes me think they’d also do pretty well on a mild snow day. Made with sustainably harvested rubber (no PVC!), these boots are described by the designer to contain “no animal byproducts”. Therefore, you can feel extra secure when purchasing them!

Current prices range from $169 – $199 USD (Nordstrom allows you to split purchases into 3 interest-free payments with Affirm)

Shop Ilse Jacobsen vegan snow boots at Nordstrom or Amazon.

Matt & Nat Vegan Winter Boots

Matt and Nat vegan snow boots

Matt & Nat is one of the most trusted, high-quality vegan brands out there, so I was thrilled when they debuted their winter boots! They only have a couple pairs that I would consider snow boots, but they look amazing. The interior is lined with faux fur, so you’re sure to stay cozy and warm.

Current prices vary from $130 – 135 USD (Matt & Nat allows you to split purchases into 4 interest-free payments with Sezzle)

Shop vegan snow boots at Matt & Nat or Amazon.

Bogs Vegan Snow & Rain Boots

Vegan styles shown above are the Amanda Plush, the Whiteout Fleck, and the Arcata Knit.

Rated the #1 Winter Boot by Outside Magazine, Bogs’ sturdy boots will let you stay comfortable in the cold for hours! Bogs does use leather and wool in a few styles (check the product details!), but vegan Neo-Tech rubber is much more prevalent.

Current prices range from $80 – $160 USD (Bogs allows you to split purchases into 4 interest-free payments with AfterPay)

Columbia Vegan Winter Boots

Vegan styles pictured above are the Heavenly Lace Up Boot, the Minx Mid III Boot, and the Heavenly Slip On Boot.

Columbia uses a wide range of materials, and quite a few of them are animal-friendly! The boots with OMNI-HEAT™ technology (using thermal warmth) seem to be the most vegan-friendly options, but don’t assume they’re all vegan without reading the materials list.

Current prices range from $100 – $150 USD

Shop vegan winter boots at Columbia or Amazon.

Jambu Vegan Winter Boots

vegan winter boots jambu

Vegan styles pictured above are the Bristol, the Ontario, and the Brenda.

***NOTE: As I’m editing this guide for 2020, Jambu only has one vegan boot option in their online store. Amazon still carries limited options from previous seasons. I imagine it will expand in coming weeks/months, so be sure to check back!

Jambu is amazing (and rare!), because they actually label their vegan options! They tend to be more affordable than other brands, so if you’re on a budget, start with these.

Current prices range from $47- $89 USD (Jambu allows you to split purchases into 4 interest-free payments with AfterPay)

Shop vegan winter boots at Amazon and Jambu.

Kamik Vegan Winter Boots

vegan winter snow boots kamik

Vegan styles above are the Snowpearl, the Canuck, and the Shellback.

Kamik makes quite a few vegan winter boots and they label them as such! The drawstring snow collar provides an extra layer of protection from moisture, ensuring that your feet stay dry. Please note, many reviewers mentioned that the sizing runs small, so consider going a full size up when ordering.

Current prices range from $68 – $130 USD

Shop vegan winter boots at Kamik or Amazon.

PAWJ Vegan Winter Boots (*honorable mention)

**TAKE 10% OFF PAWJ CALIFORNIA BOOTS WITH CODE “THETREEKISSER”**

I included Pawj California as an honorable mention, because while these boots aren’t technically waterproof, I wear mine in the snow all the time! Those are my snowy feet in the middle photo above. I absolutely love these vegan Ugg alternatives. So much so, that I’ve bought myself (and loved ones) multiple pairs of their boots (and slippers!) over the years. They hold up extremely well; I only replace them because I wear them literally every day in the fall/winter, often in snow, so eventually they get a bit worn. They have numerous colors and styles, with faux fur cuffs that can be worn rolled up or down. The whole brand is vegan!

Current prices range from $99.97 to $149.97. **TAKE 10% OFF PAWJ CALIFORNIA BOOTS WITH CODE “THETREEKISSER”**

    1. How certain are you about the Bogs boots being vegan as I’ve had this answer from Bogs tech support just yesterday.

      Hello,

Yes to my understand they are indeed made with latex for the stretch and comfort.

      Regards
      James

Subject: Re: Question about Bogs Classic Mid men’s boots

Can you confirm do all of them contain latex because I’ve seen certain sites where they are listed as vegan which wouldn’t be the case if they contain latex. Do all of your boots contain latex?

      Regards,
      Felix

      1. Hi Felix,

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. In my ten years of living vegan, I had never heard that some latex is made with casein- but a quick Google search just educated me. I’m truly shocked! Unfortunately I’m running out the door to a meeting, but will be looking into this (and trying to get more specifics from Bogs) immediately when I get home within the next few hours. I appreciate the education!

  1. I’m starting to doubt myself a bit because most references to latex not being vegan have been specifically related to condoms. I’ve followed up wtih Bogs to ask if their latex used in boots contains animal products but haven’t yet received a response.

    1. Thanks for looking into it! I emailed them yesterday but didn’t hear back, so I also wrote them on Instagram. I just got a message from them there, saying they are reaching out to their product development team and expect to get back to me in the next day or two. I’ll edit the post with a note in the meantime, and I’ll definitely let you know when I hear back!

  2. Hello i just wanted to let you know that the Sorel Winter Carnival boots for women are NOT vegan. The little details on the back and the eyes are made from cow leather. I was going to buy them but thankfully i found labels online. The 1964 Premium CVS for women IS VEGAN! I was so happy to find out. I saw the details looked a little “cheap” so I thought this has to be fake leather and indeed, found the labels online and they’re 100% vegan. Xo

    1. Sorry, the online product listing is incorrect. I ordered them.bthe details are leather. Sorel confirmed it.

  3. Hello I just wanted to highlight that the photo of the men’s Sorel boot on the far right is actually the 1964 Pac Nylon model. The Sorel website states that the upper material is nylon but no mention of the apparent leather looking details around the lace holes. Did Sorel confirm that this boot is vegan?

    1. My bf has them. They’re definitely not leather. I saw other models that had details that were leather and it said so in the labels too 😊

    1. Hi Jen! I think you’ve been misinformed, or maybe you’re thinking of a different brand? Each of the Hunter styles I link to here are listed as “certified vegan” on their website. You can read about their new focus on vegan options here: https://rstyle.me/+au7wb8VS3lzVC4kGMZJpkg. Hope that helps!

  4. Thank you SO much for this list!!!!! I’ve been trying to find vegan winter boots, like Minnesota winter boots, and every list was pathetic ‘chilly weather’ or just simply not vegan. Thank you thank you thankkkk yooouuuu

  5. Thanks for the list, but both Columbia and Sorel (made by the same parent company) have been SO unhelpful in finding boots without leather! The Sorels have leather details, and the felt lining “may contain some wool” – from Sorel directly, they said, “The 1964 Premium™ CVS Boot do have leather and canvas on them as well, at this time we do not have any vegan products.” Columbia had a great looking pair of winter hiking boots that should have been vegan, but had leather trim on the back, which wasn’t listed in the materials list, but they confirmed was leather. So frustrating! I can’t find serious winter hiking boots anywhere! Hopefully I’ll have luck with the brands listed on here – thank you!

  6. Unless something has changed recently, reps from Sorel say that they cannot confirm that any of their boots are vegan, as they try to use non-animal products whenever possible but the glue they use may contain animal byproducts. Have you actually contacted them?

  7. Hi there,

I’ve just purchased Men’s Columbia Fairbanks and the label inside shows the cowhide symbol next to the textile symbol for the upper. I think the uppers are therefore a mix of leather and textile. There are suspicious looking suede like sections which do look like cow suede and not synthetic!!
Can anyone advise, I don’t know whether to send them back???
