It’s that time of year again…PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door contest is in full swing.  Voting starts today!  After years of inner debate, I’ve finally decided to enter myself (it helped that I had a great picture from a recent VGirls shoot).

I know many of you have conflicted emotions about PETA, so I want to explain why I’m passionate about entering.  I won’t lie, I’d love to go to Hawaii for 7 days, but that’s just the icing on a much more important cake.  My primary reason for participating in this contest is that the winner receives a ton of press and is therefore able to to educate a huge audience about the cruelty-free lifestyle.  I’m a BIG fan of using positive energy & mass media to reach demographics who otherwise may never even consider removing animal products from their diet.  Anything that brings more exposure not only to my blog but to all of the animal welfare/rights activities I participate in is a glorious thing!

Finally, it’s about time for a vegan to win this!  I was a vegetarian for 14 years, so I of course respect and understand people who are choosing to start by cutting meat out of their diets.  However, there is still a widespread belief even among vegetarians that dairy & eggs come without inherent cruelty, and it’s really important that those myths are busted.

…and would love the addition of an amazing new cast member, I strongly encourage you to check out my beautiful, vivacious, incredibly poised 16-year-old friend, Bailey Peyton.  I won’t go on and on about how shockingly talented she is and what an amazing performance she gives in this video- because you can see that for yourself.  What I will tell you is that she has one of the kindest hearts and most passionate spirits I have ever witnessed.  I’ve known her since I was in middle school and she was a teeny tiny girl who we had to convince (bribe) to let us brush the tangles out of her hair.  Watching her grow up has been a pleasure, and I’m so excited to watch her continue her career as a singer/actress/star.

I’m a strong believer that those who exude positivity and who give pure, selfless love to those around them deserve to be rewarded.  If you have a moment, please check out her video, then log into the old old myspace account I know you all have (I couldn’t believe I remembered my password), and vote vote vote.  The more stars, the more attention she’ll receive from the judges, and the better chance she’ll have of meeting them in person and wowing them with her radiance.
